With the leadership of ten senior captains, Convent of the Sacred Heart’s fall teams are ready to put their training into action this season. On the field, court, water, and track, the captains have goals to bring their respective teams to success.
Sacred Heart’s soccer captains, Emily Casper and Concetta Brusco, have both been on the varsity team since their freshmen year. They agree that this year’s soccer team might be the strongest one in their high school careers.
“We have a strong team this year, and I know we have put a lot of effort during practice and are trying our best,” Concetta said.
The varsity field hockey team prepares for success on the other side of the field. Co-captains Alice Millerchip and Kate Burkett are hoping to challenge their teammates to perform with the skills they know each member possesses.
“I am excited about the new team dynamic and we are working really hard to improve,” Kate said.

Alongside the field players are the cross country runners. Co-captains Gabby Giacomo and Emma Church plan on having a successful and healthy team this year. They vow to take ice baths and stretch throughout the season. However, co-captain Emma Church is not running this season because of an ACL injury.
“Even though I am not able to run because of my leg, I know my team puts in a lot of effort during practice, so I think we will have a successful season,” Emma said.
Off land, co-captains Mary O’Sullivan and Isabella Libassi assemble the fall crew team. As captains, they hope their goals for the team will set the bar high for the rest of the season.
“We set goals in the beginning of the season, which were to come together and to bond as a team and to strengthen ourselves physically and mentally, which I think we can accomplish together,” Mary said.
Volleyball co-captains Claire O’Neill and Grace McKenney have also set high goals for their team this year. Despite the inconvenience of traveling off campus to practice due to the Sacred Heart gym’s new renovation, they plan on working hard to take home another Fairchester Athletic Association championship.
“I will stop at nothing to defend the trophy,” Claire said.
