Convent of the Sacred Heart senior and student body president Grace Passannante commenced the 2015-2016 school year with the theme “Blaze a Trail: Be Fearless,” igniting a transformative year for the Upper School. In her four years at Sacred Heart, Grace has been a leader on campus and is excited to adopt her new role as president this year.
As former green team captain, executive secretary, big sister and current Charity Water co-club head, Grace has an abundance of leadership experience to share with the Upper School community. As student body president, Grace will work with both the Upper School administration and the student council to create a fun and productive year.
One of her responsibilities includes leading morning meetings. She plans to use morning meeting to ease everyone into the day. Students will be able to suggest songs, which Grace will play in morning meeting after announcing their names.
Grace also hopes to organize new activities to make this a memorable school year. She wants to hold a school-wide yoga session in the newly built gymnasium, and a tailgate lunch during Super Bowl week, in which students can wear their favorite team colors while dining on chicken wings and chips.
“It is the students and faculty that make Sacred Heart special,” Grace said. “I am most excited for the Upper School events where everyone can bond and enjoy each other’s company.”
One of the goals of the 2015-2016 student council is to incorporate social media into their leadership.
“We have a terrific student council that will work together to make this year outstanding and memorable. Many students use social media, so a Sacred Heart student council Instagram account would be a great way to communicate what is happening at school,” Grace said.
This year, Grace will also be the varsity basketball captain. She plans to utilize the new facilities for both the student council and the basketball team.
“Brimming with great ideas and passionate about Sacred Heart, this year’s student council is fortunate to have a new athletic facility and dining hall that it can use to host events and build community,” Grace said. “I am also so excited to break in the new hardwood floors with the team.”
Through her dedication to the community, hard work, and achievements, Grace hopes to create a path for future Sacred Heart students to follow.
“A new school year affords the perfect opportunity to try out new activities and to challenge ourselves. By taking chances and making mistakes, we will grow and flourish as a strong, powerful community of educated young women,” Grace said. “During the 2015-2016 school year, our student body will create positive change and leave a legacy.”
