Fathers and daughters dance in a winter wonderland

Convent of the Sacred Heart transformed the new athletic facility into a winter wonderland for the Father Daughter Dinner Dance, Friday, November 13. Sacred Heart holds the annual event every fall, giving Upper School students and their fathers the opportunity to bond over dinner and dance.
“I really enjoyed the Father Daughter Dance, and I liked that it was held in the new gym because it allowed a lot more space for the dance, and it let everyone take advantage of the new facilities,” sophomore Maddy Black said.
Each year, a committee of Sacred Heart mothers chooses a theme for the event. This year’s theme was Winter Wonderland. The committee decorated the tables with snow covered trees as centerpieces, white and icy blue tablecloths, and snowflake necklaces at each place setting. Previous themes of the dance include “circus” and “the roaring 20s.”
When students arrived at the dance, they took pictures with their fathers in Salisbury Hall. Afterwards, they went to the new athletic facility for the festivities of the evening, which included a Dadrigals performance and a slide show featuring pictures of the seniors and their fathers.
Dadrigals, a take-off of Sacred Heart’s Madrigals, is a singing group composed of the fathers of seniors. The dads practiced twice a week, for seven weeks, in order to perfect the performance. They presented the annual video, containing clips of the dads dancing and jumping into the pool, along with a singing and dancing performance. They performed “Step in Time” from Mary Poppins, “It’s Been a Long Four Years” based on “A Hard Day’s Night” by the Beatles, “Do you Hear your Fathers Sing” based on “Do you hear the people sing?” from Les Misérables, “For Good” from Wicked, and “Seasons of Love” from Rent.
“All of the Dadrigals worked very hard to make our performance great, and it was really fun to share it with Grace,” Mr. Bill Passanante, father of senior Grace Passanante, said.
The Dadrigals hosted a dress rehearsal to present their performance to the senior mothers, who were not able to see the performance at the Father Daughter Dinner Dance. The dress rehearsal for Dadrigals was Wednesday, November 11.
“The Father Daughter Dance was really fun. I loved seeing my dad perform with the Dadrigals because he’s not much of a singer or a dancer,” senior Ana Schonander said.
