Squash match makes history
Convent of the Sacred Heart athletes and coaches served their way into the first squash match of the 2015-2016 winter season December 3 at the school’s new athletic facilities. Christening the new squash courts, the varsity squash team hosted the Masters School.
The Sacred Heart tigers challenged the Masters School panthers with seven high-adrenaline competitions. The varsity squash team won the match with a score of 7-0 against the team from Dobbs Ferry, New York.
Sacred Heart varsity players included senior Madison Miles, eighth-grader Katie Keller, eighth-grader Erin O’Connor, senior Catherine Keating, sophomore Olivia Monahan, freshman Caroline Featherston, and freshman Margo Muccia. The seven players won each of their sets and their victories excited the spectators at the historic match.
“We are hoping to have many more victories on our brand new courts and cannot wait to play all of the other teams,” Upper School sports specialist and varsity squash coach Miss Celia Allamargot said, according to greenwichtime.com. “To have the Sacred Heart girls from other sports teams or students come and cheer for us makes a huge difference.”
