Serving as the voice of the freshman class, the freshman student council members work to enhance the freshman class’ experience at Convent of the Sacred Heart. In addition, the freshman student council participates in the development and execution of Upper School student events and leads freshman class activities.
The elected members, President Avery McCloskey, Secretary Lily DeConcini, Treasurer Sally Carter, Green Team Captain Leah Atkins, and White Team Captain Anna Veber, plan to enact change through engaging students in morning meetings and organizing events such as class lunches and ice cream socials.
As Class President, Avery understands the responsibilities of an Upper School student and she often encourages her peers to spread positivity and be involved in our school community.
“I have never had a role similar to the student council, which is why I decided to do it this year,” Avery said. “I was happy when I heard that I won Class President, and was excited to show our grade all the ideas and positivity I can bring this year.”
White Team Captain Anna Veber plans on bringing her energy and enthusiasm to the green and white team activities and events.
“I chose to run for white team captain because I thought it would be a lot of fun to plan Congé and make a lot of changes that everyone wanted,” Anna said. “I have not had another position like the student council which is why I am very excited to be on [it] this year. I think that I will bring dedication and excitement to the ninth grade.”
Secretary Lily DeConcini will offer her creativity to the student council’s work through fostering uniqueness. She sees class apparel for the entire class as one way to accomplish this.
“I plan to bring leadership and fun qualities to the student council,” Lily said. “To represent my class means to represent [the] entire grade in events as well as morning meetings. This means that we, as a student council, will make Mondays brighter with emails to our grade, as well as fun Friday mornings before the day starts.”
Having a position on the student council at Sacred Heart is an opportunity to be involved and make a positive impact on the grade. In sharing their goals and ideas for the upcoming year, the freshman student council plans on working with the administration and the other members of the student council to create an eventful year.
