The Second Annual Convent of the Sacred Heart Run for Uganda will be held on the Sacred Heart campus Saturday, April 13. The benefit run will consist of a 5K race at 10:00 AM, as well as a 1K “Fun Run” at 10:15. All participants must report to the student dining room at 9:15 for registration.
The money raised will go to Sacred Heart’s sister secondary school in Uganda, Africa. Donations are welcome, and there is a fixed price of $25 for runners participating in the 5K, and $15 for all walkers in the Fun Run.
Africa Task Force, the Upper School club behind the organization of the Run for Uganda, is run by seniors Catherine Considine, Tessa Davis, and Kelsey Schmidt. The club works to provide an educational outreach program for the Sacred Heart sister school in Uganda each year through different community service opportunities. For the second year in a row the club is holding the Run for Uganda as an opportunity to gather Sacred Heart families and friends for a day in support of the Sacred Heart girls in Africa.
“The money raised at this event will go into the various funds set up to help the students at the secondary school. These include our annual donation of two full scholarships for students at the school as well as a new project, which will give the school a back up power system. They often experience power outages which interferes in their learning, specifically in the computer lab,” senior Tessa Davis said.
Over the course of the 2011-2012 school year, $1,500 was raised for the Ugandan students. The club is hoping for even greater success this year.
Registration forms can be found in Mrs. Lori Wilson’s office, and must be completed by all those planning on participating in either the 5K race or the 1K Fun Run. Family and friends are welcome to participate as well.
