With her catchy mix of soulful electro-pop , rock, and blues, 16-year-old Ella Yelich-O’Connor, better know as Lorde, has become the music industry´s latest chart-topping star. The New Zealand singer was cast into the limelight by her debut album The Love Club EP, which includes her hit song “Royals.”
“I think that Lorde has her own sense of style, and she is very young and talented as seen in her music videos. Also I think that she has a lot of potential to be extremely successful in the adolescent age,” said senior Stephanie Velasquez.
Lorde went from being a suburban girl who casually sang at her high school’s annual talent show, to a world renowned singer. Her relatable qualities continue to attract and motivate aspiring singers across the globe.
She began to win over international fans after the release of her first hit album.  She has recently released her newest album Pure Heroine which is currently ranked third among iTunes’ top albums.
Although Lorde has already attracted a dedicated fan base who are eager to see how her career will develop,   not everyone is a fan. After “Royals” knocked Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” off the number one spot on the Billboard 100, Lorde received death threats through social media such as Twitter.
Some expect Lorde to be a one-hit-wonder like Carly Rae Jepsen, while others think that Lorde has the potential to stay in the music industry for a substantial amount of time.
“Lorde’s unique style is really starting to become popular, so I think teens will be listening to her for a long time,” said junior Kylinn Askew.
