Pink is not just a color, it is a frame of mind. This is the motto of the Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA)/GOPiNK organization, a student-run club at Convent of the Sacred Heart. BCA and GOPiNK bring pink to a whole new level of inspiration.
GOPiNK is a non-profit organization that raises funds for Women At Risk’s research, education, and support programs. Their fundraising efforts also go to Relay for Life through the club’s team. BCA is an organization in Greenwich that incorporates many other schools including, Greenwich Academy, Brunswick, King Low Heywood Thomas, Greenwich High School and New Canaan High School. The money raised through BCA goes directly to the Greenwich chapter of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The two clubs work in unison at Sacred Heart to raise money through various events while also educating teenagers about breast cancer. Members of the clubs hope that their peers will understand the importance of the money they raise and spread awareness to their friends and family by encouraging annual examinations.
Seniors Jacqueline Thomas and Mo Leitner are the co-heads and founders of the GOPiNK club, and Upper School Academic Dean and Network Exchange Coordinator Mrs. Jenn Bensen is the moderator of their club. Along with juniors Caroline Burch and Emma Church, the co-heads of the BCA organization, these two student-run clubs work together to spread awareness about breast cancer and its effects.
Members of the clubs participate in a number of fundraisers, which include Zumba classes at Equinox, a Fashion Show at Richards, a Bloomingdales Beauty Bar and the Relay for Life 16-hour walk event in the spring. In 2012, GOPiNK raised over $4,300 to help cancer research at Relay for Life.
“Students should definitely be interested in joining GOPiNK. We support a great cause, we are very involved both in and outside of the community and every year we take on a combination of old and new students that combine to work together to create new and exciting ideas for fundraising and participate in events together,” Jacqueline said.
Students who are interested can get involved in helping fight breast cancer by joining the club, supporting their fundraising events, and joining the GOPiNK Relay for Life team. Members of the Sacred Heart community can help benefit the club by donating their time and effort into helping run the functions, spreading awareness, and donating to the club’s fundraising efforts of the relay team and events throughout the year.
