Harry, Ron and Hermione better iron their capes and touch up on their spells because there are new wizards in town. Author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, is re-teaming with Warner Brothers for an all-new film series closely related to the Potter franchise. The series spin-off is based on a first-year textbook Harry Potter and his friends were required to read in the original series, called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
“This series will focus on the book’s author (Newt Scamander), who tracks various mythical monsters and then publishes their addresses” Lily Rothman, a reporter for Time Entertainment, said.
On his journey, Scamander will search far and wide for these fantastical beasts. He will even find himself in New York.
This series is set to take place, “A full 70 years before the Harry Potter story takes place”, Lily Rothman said.
Other characters include Professor Dumbledeedoo, Hangry, Panko Monkfish and others who resemble those of the Potter series.
According to The Guardian, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world, ” Rowling said.
This new project of Rowling’s is set to become its very own franchise, developing into video games as well as consumer products. Predicted to gross a significant amount of money, it has the potential to rival even Harry Potter itself.
It is still up in the air as to when the series will make its debut into the muggle world, but when it does, it is said to have fans everywhere enchanted.
Until then, keep practicing those spells. They might come in handy.
