Destination of the week: Pompeii, Italy
After a local volcano – known as Mount Vesuvius – erupted in 79 A.D., the thriving Roman city of Pompeii was buried in meters of ash. Still in the process of being uncovered, scientists have spent over four hundred years extracting artifacts from the ground beneath the feet of present-day Pompeii tourists.
