“Humans of the Sacred Heart” – Lauren Giuriceo ’22
Why did you choose to continue the One Love club?
“I continued the One Love club this year because I strongly believe in the importance of One Love’s goal to end domestic violence tragedies. The One Love Foundation educates young people about the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and empowers them to teach the signs to their peers. I have been a One Love teen ambassador since freshman year and use my knowledge about relationship health in my everyday life, so I felt capable and compelled to teach One Love’s Ten Signs to the Sacred Heart community. Additionally, statistically speaking, over one in three women will be in an abusive relationship in their lifetimes. Given that Sacred Heart is an all-girls school with a mission to foster young, female leaders, I see that a One Love education is vital in achieving that goal.”
What is the club’s goal?
“This year, our club will train all of our members in facilitating workshops. By doing so, we ensure that we have educated our club members in the Ten Signs and how to identify them in relationships and inspired their confidence to teach others the same messages.”
How do you plan to further One Love’s mission during lacrosse season?
“We have a few exciting events planned for this spring athletics season. The lacrosse team, and hopefully many other Sacred Heart teams, will have a One Love game dedication. We will coordinate with our opponents to make matching warm-up shirts for this game, signifying our solidarity in working towards a common goal of promoting relationship education. We will have a fundraiser through apparel and bake sales and an educational tabling event to provide the community with more information about One Love. Also, throughout the spring, we will be hosting workshops and civvies days for the entire school to participate in.”
