“Humans of the Sacred Heart” – Samantha Mecane ’24
When did your interest in fashion begin?
“My interest in fashion began relatively recently, as I stopped reacting to judgment from others and from myself. I realized that the critical opinions I constantly felt could only affect me if I let them, and I allowed myself to really start expressing myself through clothing. I view clothing style as one of the most important ways to show people who we are and want to be, and I find so much value in feeling comfort and meaning in what I wear. I would say my interest in fashion began more as an extension of finding creative freedom than anything else.”
What inspired you to start a fashion blog?
“Once I started really letting myself wear what I wanted to, I wanted to inspire other people to do the same. The blog originally started as a very casual way for me to share some outfit ideas, and after months of consideration, I finally sat down and made it. However, I realized that as I have become more comfortable with expressing myself and feeling a sense of pride in my identity, the blog has become more of an expression of confidence and owning who I am.”
What hopes do you have for the future of your blog?
“Honestly, I have appreciated the process of watching my blog evolve on its own. As I am approaching my fourth month with STITCHED, it has already begun to change in ways I did not necessarily intend. I think the beauty of such a casual space is that it accurately represents who I am, and I greatly value the honest reflection of my constant evolution. I can’t wait to see how it will develop in the future and reach even more people.”
