The time-honored tradition of “Gone from the school, not from the Heart” commemorates the previous year’s graduating class of editors. The alumnae featured first this year are the 2022-2023 Executive Board members. Lindsay Benza ’23, Ana López del Punta ’23, and Caterina Pye ’23 reflected on their initial few weeks studying at a collegiate level.
Villanova University Class of 2027
Co-Editor-in-Chief
What major are you planning to choose, and what do you hope to accomplish after college?
“I am majoring in Nursing. I want to become a nurse because I enjoy helping and caring for others. After college, my goal is to work on the Pediatrics or Labor and Delivery floor of a hospital. I would like to work for a few years after college to gain experience, but I hope to get my Master’s degree so I can be a Nurse Practitioner.”
Are you engaging in any activities related to journalism in college?
“As of right now, I am not engaging in any journalistic activities. My course load for Nursing is pretty heavy, so I am just learning how to navigate and manage it. Hopefully, I can participate in some of the journalistic opportunities on campus soon.”
In what ways have your courses at Sacred Heart Greenwich prepared you for collegiate-level courses?
“Sacred Heart has prepared me very well for all of the courses I am taking at the moment. At Villanova, all freshman students have to take a class called ‘Augustinian Culture and Seminar.’ This class reminds me of Senior Seminar at Sacred Heart because we read a lot of philosophical texts. Over the past few weeks, we have participated in Harkness discussions about Plato, which is something we did often in Senior Seminar. Because I engaged in many of these discussions in high school, I am not afraid to share my ideas and perspectives.”
What is one piece of advice you would give to current Upper School students at Sacred Heart Greenwich?
“My advice to Upper School students is to relish your time at Sacred Heart. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, take in every second of your Sacred Heart experience because it flies by.”
Northeastern University Class of 2027
Co-Editor-in-Chief
What major are you planning to choose, and what do you hope to accomplish after college?
“I am currently pursuing a combined major in Political Science and International Affairs due to my interest in exploring the careers of law and diplomacy. I chose these disciplines because I hope to one day be able to contribute to necessary immigration reform on a global scale.”
Are you engaging in any activities related to journalism in college?
“As a student at Northeastern University, I am currently exploring options for clubs and other extracurricular activities. Although I have not yet done so, I hope to apply to write as a News Correspondent and/or Columnist for The Huntington News or for a literary magazine on campus.”
In what ways have your courses at Sacred Heart Greenwich prepared you for collegiate-level courses?
“Sacred Heart Greenwich equips its students with various academic as well as social skills that are helpful for collegiate-level courses. Indeed, one of the most imperative lessons I have learned from classes at Sacred Heart is to possess confidence in one’s abilities and voice while also remaining an acute and open-minded listener.”
What is one piece of advice you would give to current Upper School students at Sacred Heart Greenwich?
“Since I entered Sacred Heart in seventh grade, I have found that what makes the school so remarkable are the teachers. The faculty truly cares about the education and personal growth of each student. Therefore, a piece of advice I would give to Upper School students is to seek extra help and advice from teachers across the departments at Sacred Heart.”
University of Southern California Class of 2027
Managing Editor
What major are you planning to choose, and what do you hope to accomplish after college?
“Because of my interest in global affairs, I decided to major in International Relations Global Business. After seeing this specific major, I knew it was something I wanted to study because of its interdisciplinary aspects and the flexibility it gives me for future career paths. I look forward to deepening my knowledge in the subject over the next four years.”
Are you engaging in any activities related to journalism in college?
“Participating in the King Street Chronicle was rewarding in many aspects, so I am looking to engage in journalistic activities. I am very excited that USC offers various journalistic opportunities, from classes to clubs. As of now, I am in the process of applying to be a member of the Daily Trojan, USC’s student newspaper, and I am also looking at other clubs that involve journalism.”
In what ways have your courses at Sacred Heart Greenwich prepared you for collegiate-level courses?
“Like most people, I was nervous about the transition into college and all the work. However, Sacred Heart’s teachers and classes have prepared me well for college-level courses and have taught me how to navigate my workload while also handling other responsibilities. My senior year, especially, prepared me as I was able to take the Comparative Government and Politics class, which helped ensure my decision to pursue international relations in college and gave me foundational knowledge.”
What is one piece of advice you would give to current Upper School students at Sacred Heart Greenwich?
“One piece of advice I was given and still use every day is that every mistake is an opportunity to grow and learn. I feel this applies to all students as we tend to over-worry, which causes us unneeded stress.”
