What major are you planning to choose, and what do you hope to accomplish after college?

In what ways have your courses at Sacred Heart Greenwich prepared you for collegiate-level courses?
“Journalism has prepared me for the kind of writing I have to do as a social science major, as a lot of it is taking a stance on a topic and supporting a claim with data. I especially use my journalistic experience in my writing seminar on educational inequality and reform efforts in the U.S. as we write essays similar to opinion pieces (opinion was my favorite section of the KSC), so I am grateful for my three years writing on the staff of the KSC. As a staff writer and editor for the KSC, I often had to reach out to people I had never met and interview them, which has been incredibly useful now in terms of communicating with professors and members of organizations I am interested in joining. The Sacred Heart English curriculum prepared me for how to read to retain information, which is crucial due to the amount of reading I do as a social science major.”

What is one piece of advice you would give to current Upper School students at Sacred Heart?
“One piece of advice I would give to current Upper School students at Sacred Heart would be to truly follow your passions. I know that sounds generic, but it is more than important. When I first got to college, I heard this piece of advice perpetually. There are so many new and exciting opportunities in college: take advantage of them. Genuinely, you have so much freedom in picking classes you want to take and joining clubs you want to be a part of. To be honest with you, I switched out of two classes the first week because I just did not find them interesting. Yes, college is going to be hard, but if you do enjoy what you are doing, you will find drive, fulfillment, and enjoyment in the ups and even the downs.”
