The crisp fall air and colorful changing leaves welcomed a day of sports competition and lively fair activities on King Street. Sacred Heart Greenwich celebrated the annual Heart Homecoming Day with carnival festivities, athletic games, and an evening Upper School dance. This celebration invited alumnae, parents, and students throughout the Sacred Heart community to gather with enthusiasm and cheer.
The day kicked off with carnival festivities, such as face painting, basketball, and a bouncy castle. Other activities included lunch from food trucks, a pumpkin patch, music, and carnival games. Hazel reflected on her final Homecoming and her cherished memories of the event. She commented on the impact this annual celebration has had on her experience at Sacred Heart.
“Every year I look forward to Homecoming because I think it’s a great opportunity for our school to come together and celebrate heart and community,” Hazel said. “Over my twelve years attending Sacred Heart, Homecoming is one of my favorite school traditions and something that makes our school very special.”
Throughout the day, community members supported Sacred Heart athletic teams, which encompassed both varsity and junior varsity (JV) soccer and volleyball games. Varsity soccer played Kent School and scored a 3-0 win with two goals from junior Arianna Chin and one goal from junior Dalia Si-Ahmed. JV soccer played the School of the Holy Child and ended with a 3-0 win with one goal from junior Lexi Parsons, one goal from freshman Kaitlin Kavanagh, and one goal from freshman Maeve Gallary. Varsity volleyball also played the School of the Holy Child and recorded a victory of three sets. JV A volleyball played the School of the Holy Child and lost two sets to zero. The Sacred Heart community’s strong turnout to the games created a lively atmosphere.
Mrs. Rousseau, Director of Athletics, shared the importance of gathering together for Homecoming and promoting school spirit. She touched on how the intersection of current students and Sacred Heart alumnae supported school camaraderie and encouraged the teams to perform with honor, Heart, and hustle.
“I think it’s wonderful that alumnae can come back and watch games to see the new athletes and where the program has gone since their time at Sacred Heart,” Mrs. Rousseau said. “I think it gives them the opportunity to reflect on their athletic experience and to observe the camaraderie.”
The Homecoming Dance ended the day of sports, games, and fun festivities. The dance’s theme was Country, encouraging students to incorporate Western style dress, such as cowgirl boots and hats, into their costumes. Senior Lily Carroll, Upper School Head of Social, commented on her role and the work she did to organize the highly anticipated dance.
“I wanted to leave an impact on the school as it is my last year, and I think planning fun events and dances, [like] Homecoming, [is] a great way to do that,” Lily said. “The entire Student Council voted on the theme of Country because of the fun attire.”
