Sacred Heart Greenwich unwraps the holidays with its eleventh annual Come Home for Christmas Sunday, December 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The school warmly welcomed current students, families, and alumnae with a morning family mass, brunch, and a holiday shopping boutique in the athletic center. There were various festive crafts and activities such as gingerbread house decorating, photos with Santa Santa, and Santa’s Secret Shop. The event brought families together to celebrate the season with joy and a shared sense of community.
The morning opened with a family Mass led by Father Jordan McConway, OP, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. Student participation included music from the Madrigals singing group. The songs sung by the Madrigals consisted of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “People Look East,” and “Ready the Way”. In addition, seniors serving as Eucharistic Ministers Participated in the mass.
After Mass, families gathered in Hayes Hall for a brunch, and children participated in various games and activities. The event featured a variety of activities for all community members, creating a vibrant holiday atmosphere. Salisbury Hall transformed into a winter wonderland photo backdrop for family pictures with Santa Claus. Children had the opportunity to visit Santa’s Secret Shop, where they could buy gifts for their loved ones. Over in the DuBois gym, the scent of gingerbread filled the air as kids decorated their own gingerbread houses. Senior Kathryn Herman volunteered at Come Home for Christmas and discussed how her experience contributed to the togetherness of the school community.
“My favorite Come Home for Christmas memory was when I was in middle school and I made gingerbread houses with the Upper School girls,” Kathryn said. “This event brings the community together as the Upper School students volunteer and participate in fun activities with the lower schoolers.”
Throughout the day, the Athletic Center buzzed with energy and transformed into a holiday boutique, showcasing 38 different local vendors. The boutique offered a selection of gifts, catering to a wide range of tastes and interests. Shoppers explored everything from stylish apparel and unique accessories to jewelry and home décor. The boutique’s offerings extend to children’s toys, personalized gifts, and even gourmet treats, making it a one-stop destination for all holiday shopping. The holiday boutique celebrated creativity and community, with each vendor bringing something special. Kathryn reflected on the festive holiday spirit that filled the event.
“I am most excited about the Come Home for Christmas event bringing the holiday spirit to Sacred Heart families,” Kathryn said. “I love seeing people come together to celebrate such a special holiday and help people shop for their loved ones. It’s important to see the Upper School come together to give back to our entire community, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.”
