What is your favorite aspect of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) prayer service?
“Every year I look forward to the MLK prayer service because of the different ways they praise God and the legacy of [Reverend] Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. My favorite part, like many students, is the Gospel Knights and when the seniors and vision steppers perform.”
How did you get involved in the MLK prayer service this year?
“This year, I wrote a reflection that reflects on my Panamanian and Jamaican heritage and how I embraced my multicultural identity. In my reflection, I elaborate on how my diverse background has allowed me to turn my education and diverse experiences into a stance against inequalities in social justice. Additionally, as a senior, I will step with the vision steppers during the liturgy, which is a moment I have looked forward to for many years.”
In what ways does the MLK prayer service help you honor and celebrate Dr. King’s life and legacy?
“The MLK prayer service celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy and brings together a community celebrating our differences positively and engagingly […]. [T]his service and many aspects of this gathering such as song, dance, and reflection create a unique way to honor him and the work that he has done.”
