For this edition of Guide to Greenwich, I visited three cafés in Greenwich, Connecticut, to determine which sold the best classic croissant. I judged these croissants based on their flavor, price, and proximity to Sacred Heart Greenwich.

Maman Bakery
My first stop was Maman Bakery on Greenwich Avenue, a 16-minute drive from Sacred Heart. I arrived around 1 p.m., so people were sitting at tables eating lunch, but it was not overly crowded. The croissant came to a total of $4.00, which I thought was a reasonable price. When I ordered, the staff were kind and promptly served my croissant. I found a spot at one of the tables to eat. My croissant was the perfect size and shape and was very flavorful, making for a delightful midday treat. I was very pleased with my visit and would come back again, whether it be for the bakery’s ambiance or for the appetizing treats that it offers.
Aux Délices Café

Next, I visited Aux Délices Café, just off of Greenwich Avenue. It is also a 16-minute drive from Sacred Heart and offers a wide selection of meals. Although there was not an abundance of tables for customers, I found a seat in the back. The croissant cost $4.00, the same price as Maman Bakery’s croissant. However, this croissant had a different shape that was not to my liking. It was still very tasty and had a good crunch. Aux Délices is an ideal café if you want to purchase food quickly and dine somewhere else.

Le Pain Quotidien
The last bakery I visited was Le Pain Quotidien on Greenwich Avenue, which is a 17-minute drive from Sacred Heart. This was the coziest location of the three, with fewer customers inside. The staff greeted me warmly and were efficient in serving me the beautifully baked croissant. It was golden brown and tasted delicious. However, it was smaller than the previous two, yet more expensive at $6.00. It had a nice crust and was soft inside but was a bit crumbly. Overall, the shop was very welcoming, spacious, and, most importantly, served a delicious croissant. I would come another time for a nice brunch, morning coffee, or just to spend time with friends.
Winner
After visiting all three locations, I concluded that Maman Bakery sold the best croissants. While the croissant from Le Pain Quotidien was delectable, and the one from Aux Délices Café had a unique shape and was the same price, the croissant from Maman Bakery was the tastiest. Overall, the bakery’s atmosphere, delicious croissant, and picture-worthy interior made for a pleasant experience.
