What influenced you to take on the role of Assistant Sailing Coach at Sacred Heart Greenwich?
“My parents had a sailboat when I was little, and many of my childhood photos are of me on our boat, Glide. When I met my husband, York, he and I realized that we had a mutual love for being on the water. We quickly learned how fun it was to sail together and spent time racing on the weekends in the summer on Shelter Island. When the school brought up the idea of coaching the team this year, I thought what a great idea it would be for York and me to do it together. He has extensive coaching experience, so it was an exciting way for me to be involved in the program and to work alongside him to lead the team.”
What are you most excited for this season, and what do you hope to accomplish with the sailing team?
“I can’t wait to help the sailors continue to develop their skills both on and off the water. I am dedicated to fostering an environment where every sailor has the chance to thrive, improve, and most importantly, have fun. This season, we are focused on growing the program, enhancing our training methods, and creating more opportunities for all our sailors to challenge themselves and succeed. I am committed to building a positive, inclusive team culture and providing a strong foundation for personal and athletic growth. To sum it up, I am so excited for skill-building, racing and fun on the water.”
How do you think that your new role helps you immerse in the Sacred Heart community and become closer to students?
“This new role has not only allowed me to become closer to the students but has allowed my entire family to be part of the amazing Sacred Heart community. It has allowed me to engage and work with the amazing students on the team outside of the classroom and to get to know them in a very different way. It was so amazing to be able to take the team on a training trip to our sister school in Miami, as it allowed us to develop a strong bond heading into the season. I am very thankful for this special opportunity.”
