Within every Convent of the Sacred Heart student lie ambition, drive, and motivation. As the first online-editor of The King Street Chronicle, I have had the opportunity to work with editors and reporters, both past and present, who possess all of these qualities. It is because of these dedicated and talented girls, that I have the privilege of welcoming you today, to our inaugural online edition of your school newspaper.
Since The King Street Chronicle’s beginning in the early 1970’s, members of its layout staff have spent hours hunched over first layout boards and later computer screens, meticulously editing and revising, attempting to magically converge several articles onto one page. With the online edition, you might peek in the room to find our class still hunched over, with the glow of computer screens shining on our faces. However, this year, you will look into a 21 century journalism classroom. With i-pads, apple televisions, and a variety of filming equipment, the room is indeed a modern-day newsroom.
On behalf of the entire staff of King Street Chronicle, we extend immense gratitude to the administration for supporting this initiative, as well as our faculty adviser, Ms. Matilde Larson, and Director of Educational Technology, Mr. Karl Haeseler. In addition, we are forever grateful to last year’s editorial staff including Editor-in-Chief, Nicole Narea, and Managing-Editor, Alex Murray. Without their contagious passion, insight, and dedication, this milestone would not have been possible.
We hope that in the next several days, each of you will find time to visit and explore our digital newspaper. Your peers have worked hard to put it together. Please take note of the new additions that accompany our transformation. There are new sections, which will be updated regularly with new stories, polls, graphics and photos. The KSC Online will also feature videos produced in collaboration with the Broadcast Journalism program and photos and graphics created by the new Multi Media design class.
So, take a moment, sit back, relax, and scroll through our most exciting edition yet of The King Street Chronicle.
