Why did you decide to start the Food Ambassador program at Sacred Heart?
I decided to start the Food Ambassador program after meeting with Pat Hart at Caritas, a food pantry in Port Chester. Mrs. Hart told me that there is a lot of food waste in the United States particularly in terms of food that is salvageable, but not able to be sold on the supermarket shelves.
What do you hope to accomplish with the program?
I hope that we can provide another food source for pantries that serve the hungry poor in Greenwich and Port Chester.
How can students get involved with the program?
Students have already expressed interest and have been invited to sign up for a particular strand (i.e. outreach to pantries, outreach to supermarkets, and awareness). We will meet and begin assigning student jobs and responsibilities.
The King Street Chronicle thanks Upper School Theology Teacher and Director of Upper School Social Justice and Service Mrs. Kerry Bader for her contributions to “Humans of Sacred Heart.”
