During the twelve days until Christmas Break, the King Street Chronicle will present staff favorites from the holiday season. This third edition will not include three French hens, but beloved Christmas songs, movies, recipes, quotes, and festivities.
Song of the day: “Last Christmas” – written and performed by Wham!
Movie of the day: Elf
Elf, starring Will Ferrell, is a Christmas comedy about Buddy, a human who lives with elves. Buddy’s mission is to bring Christmas cheer back to the hustling city of Manhattan and his journey begins when he learns he is not a real elf. Upon this discovery, he travels to New York City in search of his biological father, only to discover his father has a scrooge-like hate for Christmas.
Recipe of the day: Spiced Up Hot Cocoa
This detailed infographic illustrates ten ways to put a twist on the classic hot chocolate. It includes a variety of flavor combinations such as an Aztec-inspired spin, and dark chocolate and orange, and even features a vegan alternative for those who prefer to not use milk.
DIY of the day: Festive Mugs
A mug
Rubbing alcohol
Stickers or stencils to create the designs
Sharpies, the normal colors work best, but metallic colors also work
An oven
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Wipe the mug with rubbing alcohol to make sure it’s clean.
- Place a sticker or stencil over the mug.
- To achieve the Christmas tree designed pictured, lay a Christmas tree sticker on the front of the mug and begin stippling dots radiating from the sticker. To attain a gradient effect make the dots next to the sticker close together and spread the dots out the further they are from the sticker.
- To achieve the reindeer design, either color in a reindeer stencil or freehand draw the character.
- Peel away any stickers or stencils from the mugs. Then, place the mugs into the oven for 30 minutes.
Quote of the day: “Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.” – Charles M. Schulz
