“Humans of Sacred Heart” – Molly Kriskey ’23

Which character are you playing in “Annie” and how do you relate to that character?

“The character that I play in Annie is a young orphan named Molly.  I love playing Molly not only because we share the same name, but because her enthusiasm is contagious.  I relate to her energy and I admire her ability to make any situation fun and interesting.  She is loyal, funny, mischievous, and a light in the darkness.  I think we all could learn a lot from her, and I know I certainly have.”

What has been the most challenging aspect of adapting the performance into a virtual format?

“While adapting a traditionally live performance into a virtual format, there are definitely obstacles to overcome.  A lot of the filming was done over Zoom and we often ran into technical difficulties due to the high number of people online.  For the music in this production, we all separately recorded ourselves singing either at home or in the sound booth at school, an unconventional process but also really new and fun experience for me.  I definitely learned a lot more than I would have if the show was in person.  At some points of the filming, I felt like I was in a movie because of all the cameras, microphones, and creatives places around the campus where we filmed some of the scenes.  There were certainly challenges when putting together a show that is completely online but our cast and crew were up to the task and did an amazing job.”

What is your favorite part of participating in the musical?

“My favorite part about participating in the musical is the people.  I have always loved music and performing, but my love has grown over the past years because of the theatre department here.  The teachers and students that are a part of our Sacred Heart Theatre family are the most kind-hearted, genuine, and hardworking individuals I have met.  Everyone is supportive of one another which encourages us to take risks as performers and help each other grow, and I always look forward to rehearsal whether in person or online.”
