Varsity volleyball advances to FAA finals

Since August, the Convent of the Sacred Heart varsity volleyball players have had one goal in sight – to reach the finals of the Fairchester Athletic Association tournament. With a 14 win, 4 loss standing, they are seeded second in the tournament, only behind cross-town rival, Greenwich Academy.
Under the new leadership of Head Coach Beth Wilson-Jordan and Assistant Coach Carolina Herrera, the 16 dedicated members of Sacred Heart varsity volleyball worked all season to gel as a team, and to translate this bond into strong communication on the court. The girls believe that in the FAA final game, the winner will not necessarily be the stronger team skill-wise, but the most determined, communicative, and mentally tough team.
“GA obviously has a very strong skill set, but in the end it’s going to be the team who wants it the most,” senior outside hitter Christina Monaco said.
Greenwich Academy, led by Head Coach Christy Girard, has had a very successful season, standing first in the FAA with a 14-2 record.

“I am really excited to see how much they have improved since the last time we played them,” Greenwich Academy sophomore outside hitter Phoebe Morris said in a GreenwichTime article on November 7.
Similar sentiments are felt by Sacred Heart players, who are excited to face Greenwich Academy, one of the most competitive teams that Sacred Heart plays.
“I’m excited to play GA again because we are definitely better than we were when we first played them. There’s no better way to end the season than to play a really competitive team with whom we have a history,” junior back row player Emily Davenport said.
