As temperatures begin to drop, get ready to put away fall wardrobes and break out the 2013 winter trends. Between Christmas Eve, New Year’s, and holiday parties, there are countless opportunities to showcase a trendy winter wardrobe.
“I absolutely love dressing during the holidays because there are so many different outfit choices and so many different occasions to dress for,” Convent of the Sacred Heart junior Concetta Brusco said. “I love summer and fall clothes, but I’m definitely happy to be able to bring out my winter clothes.”
Although neon colors and patterns are often reserved for the summer months, don’t be afraid to experiment with different textures, designs and bold colors during the winter. Bright hues such as red, gold and yellow are a great way to offset the milder tones usually associated with winter clothing, such as white, black, grey and navy.
For a festive holiday party, try unique outfit pairings such as a cropped sweater and flowy skirt, or patterned pants with a sweater or leather jacket.

Numerous designers, including Philip Lim, Helmut Lang, Diane von Furstenburg, and Stella McCartney, have introduced bold patterned pants as part of their winter collections. In contrast to the usual single-colored leggings or skinny jeans, these pants are a great way to make a statement during the winter season.
“Patterns and colors are definitely in this season, and I love trying out different combinations to see what will work,” sophomore Andrea Ranzilla said.
When visiting relatives, opening presents, and spending time with family, comfort is a necessity on Christmas day. A festive Christmas sweater paired with jeans or leggings and boots is both comfortable and in style. Urban Outfitters sells a variety of different Christmas Sweaters both online and at their store on Greenwich Avenue.
Boots are comfortable and trendy and are a must-have for the winter months. Designers such as Stuart Weitzman, Michael Kors, Frye, Rag and Bone, and Chloé sell a variety of boots in different styles, lengths and colors. From low and mid rise boots to knee high and over-the-knee boots, there are numerous options to spice up any outfit.
End the holiday season with a bold, trendy New Years Eve outfit. Depending on the occasion, New Years is the time to sport anything from patterned pants to leather jackets or sequin dresses. Pick out a unique outfit that is both festive and warm, keeping in mind the chilling January temperatures.
“One of my favorite parts of winter is being able to try out the new winter styles and trends, and I’m so excited to start picking out outfits for the holidays,” Concetta said.
