How does receiving the “Greenwich Young Women’s Christian Association Women Who Inspire Next Generation” honor make you feel?
“I am incredibly honored to receive the Greenwich YWCA Women Who Inspire Next Generation award. This honor is really a reflection on the many students and teachers at Sacred Heart who have been working together on campus sustainability. I am so pleased that this work is being recognized and that it might inspire younger students to get involved. In addition, I am grateful for having the opportunity to be a part of the wonderful work happening at Heartsong and hope to encourage other community members to volunteer at this organization in White Plains, New York.”
What inspired you to participate in the sustainability efforts at Sacred Heart Greenwich?
“I have always been interested in environmental issues. Once I reached high school, I was provided with the space to work with a team of teachers and students who share a passion for introducing sustainability efforts to the Sacred Heart Greenwich campus. The Environmental Stewardship Team consistently offers presentations to the student body. We have organized several school-wide Earth Day celebrations and have also successfully introduced composting during lunchtime. I have found such efforts to be deeply rewarding and inspiring.”
Why is it important for students to take action and address environmental issues?
“In a time where environmental issues are becoming more and more common and extreme, it is so important for young people, including the students at Sacred Heart, to take action. Every person is a steward of the Earth, and with that responsibility, we must learn to appreciate the natural world and work to protect it.”
