For the Senior Edition of Guide to Greenwich, I ventured to three of the Class of 2024’s favorite lunch spots. I judged the locations based on the atmosphere, service, taste, and proximity to Sacred Heart Greenwich, sampling seniors’ go-to meals.
Tazza Cafe
First, I headed to Tazza Cafe, roughly ten minutes from Sacred Heart. Tazza is a senior favorite as it offers a plethora of options from which customers can choose. Notably, the cafe’s lengthy beverage menu consists of coffees, teas, smoothies, protein shakes, and “frostees,” presenting customers with a tough choice. Similar to the beverage selection, the wide-ranging food menu and its array may leave customers uncertain about what to choose. From wraps and paninis to açaí bowls and overnight oats, Tazza caters to every taste preference.
Upon entering the cafe, I noticed the cozy yet vibrant ambiance around me. While most seniors prefer taking their food to go, Tazza is definitely a great spot to dine in. In fact, after I ordered the avocado toast and overnight oats, I enjoyed my meal in the cafe’s dining area. The aroma of freshly prepared dishes accompanied me as I relished the sweet and savory flavors of my meal. Although my entire meal was pricey at $23, the avocado toast was quite filling due to its thick seven-grain bread and poached egg on top. Ultimately, Tazza’s wide selection of food and beverages makes it a dependable option for a quick bite or a coffee before or after class.
Glenville Deli
The classic student lunch spot, Glenville Deli, is a five-minute drive from Sacred Heart. Due to its fast service and proximity to the school, the deli is a favorite among seniors. Its space is small and seating limited, so seniors frequently opt to grab their food to-go at this spot. Glenville’s chicken Caesar salad wraps, hearty meat sandwiches, and crispy home fries are just some of the seniors’ top picks. Nearly every student who steps into the deli departs with a side of Glenville’s signature seasoned home fries. Their one-of-a-kind flavor and texture make them a must have. Additionally, the portion sizes are generous, ensuring that customers leave feeling satisfied without overspending.
At this lunch spot, my go-to order was the chicken Caesar salad wrap paired with a side of home fries. Glenville Deli truly excels at preparing this classic meal, ensuring it is always a satisfying and enjoyable choice. My meal came at an affordable price, with the wrap costing $9 and the side of fries at $5. All in all, Glenville Deli unquestionably earns its place as a student favorite due to its convenient location near the school and efficient service, making it the ideal spot for busy students on the go.
Aux Délices
Aux Délices, on West Elm Street, right off Greenwich Avenue, offers customers an array of food selections. The restaurant’s fresh and innovative sandwich, wrap, and salad options, as well as desserts and pastries, make this spot a senior favorite. Despite the delicious and healthy food the store offers, Aux Délices is 20 minutes away from the Sacred Heart campus, which is not ideal for some students.
As the store’s distinctive pastel blue doors greeted me alongside the expansive yellow windows, I picked up my lunch. As I opted for the $13.99 Gloria’s Chicken Wrap, a delectable combination of breaded chicken tenders, lettuce, avocado, tomato, cheese, onion, jalapeño, and Sriracha Sauce, I marveled at Aux Délices’ extensive menu of over 20 sandwich and wrap options. Truly, with its eclectic menu offerings, Aux Délices guarantees that every customer will discover something they enjoy.
Similar to Glenville Deli, Aux Délices also offers limited seating, which typically prompts customers to opt for takeout instead. Thus, due to its distance from the school and limited seating, students often place advance orders for pickup to minimize waiting time and return to school promptly. Additionally, it is worth noting that the menu leans towards the pricier side, reflecting its devotion to quality ingredients. All in all, the seniors’ commitment to frequenting Aux Délices despite its distance and prices speaks volumes about their admiration for it.
Winner
After visiting three of the Class of 2024’s favorite lunch spots, I concluded that Aux Délices was the best lunch spot. Despite the restaurant’s distance from school, Aux Délices’ welcoming atmosphere, vast menu, and wholesome, fresh meals place the restaurant at the top of the list. However, Glenville Deli is a less expensive and more time-efficient alternative, especially for seniors with tight schedules and less time to spare.
