The Connecticut Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Fair is an annual showcase of creativity and innovation when students from across the state present cutting-edge research in STEM fields, according to ctstemfoundation.org. With months of dedication poured into their projects, participants aim to tackle complex challenges and contribute new ideas to their fields. This year, two students from Sacred Heart Greenwich stood out among the competition, earning first place for their research. Seniors Ella Callagy and Charly Nemec took home first place with their project on pain perception, an exploration into how the human body processes pain signals. Their research could contribute to future pain management and medical treatment advancements. I spoke with Ella and Charly to break down their journey from idea to execution, uncover their challenges, and discuss what this win means for their future in STEM.
