What is your role in helping to orchestrate the Christmas Concert?
“I direct the Bell Choirs, so I prepare my Middle School Bell Choir and the two Upper School Bell Choirs to perform at the event. Throughout the fall, I work with Miss Etheridge, Ms. Alonzo-Fay, and Mr. Lowery to help create rehearsal schedules, finalize the program, coordinate the decorations, and work through all the logistics that are part of any big performance.”
What is your favorite part about watching the concert take shape?
“I love seeing all of the age groups come together. It’s really special when the 5th graders can perform at the same event as the seniors and, in the case of the opening and closing numbers, perform together in the same song. It is a tradition for the Madrigals and Upper School Chorus to always sing Carol of the Bells, so it is really special to see the younger students watch that performance knowing they can look forward to being a part of that in a few years. Seeing everyone come together reminds us that Christmas is a time of family and community, and watching all the students support each other is really meaningful. These performing groups have also been working extremely hard to prepare for the concert, so it’s always really exciting to see everyone’s families finally get to see the product of all the hard work.”
How do you think that the Christmas Concert brings the community together with holiday spirit?
“The Christmas Concert is such a great way to close out the school year before we leave for Christmas break. [The concert] leaves everyone with so much joy and holiday spirit as they prepare to begin celebrating with their families. Since there are no classes the day after the concert, there is no pressure to be working on anything else that night, and everyone is able to focus on and fully enjoy the celebration.”
