What is your role in the Diversity Club?
“My role as a Diversity Club head is to cultivate a safe and welcoming environment for all students and faculty at Sacred Heart Greenwich. By working alongside Chloe Hill, Gianna Rodrigues, and Estela Sosa, we have been able to achieve this by organizing events, meetings, and lunch discussions that celebrate and promote awareness of many cultures, identities, and perspectives.”
Why did you decide to become a member of the Diversity Club?
“I first joined the Diversity Club as a freshman when it was only held during lunch periods. With such informative presentations and contribution of conversation, I began to recognize the significance the word ‘diversity’ truly held. As I progressed through my time at Sacred Heart, I have been blessed with the opportunity to do the same for other girls as a club head myself. [Through] the preparation and tedious planning of everything the Diversity Club hosts, I am able to not only replicate the positive experiences I have had with the club over the past three years, but also foster its growth by providing a platform that encourages girls who want to be heard.”
What impact has the Diversity Club had on the community?
“The Diversity Club has had an immense impact on the Sacred Heart community largely due to the emphasis on creating an environment where every individual, whether new or a returning member, feels heard and valued. I make it a priority to ensure that our meetings and events offer meaningful opportunities for all voices to be heard, advocating for those who may not have the ability to express themselves, and empowering young girls to actively speak up for themselves.”
The King Street Chronicle thanks senior Laurie Starke ’26 for her contributions to “Humans of Sacred Heart.”
