Lilly Pulitzer is a fashion favorite in the Northeast, where bright sundresses and eclectic patterns signal the start of a long-anticipated summer. The designer’s colorful collaboration with chain store Target beginning April 19 will bring the brand’s signature resort-wear and accessories down to affordable prices.
“As we started to think about the perfect partner to collaborate with, Lilly Pulitzer was the clear choice given the brand’s inspiring heritage, authority with print and pattern and resort-chic aesthetic,” Senior Vice President of Apparel and Accessories at Target, Ms. Stacia Anderson, said according to Target’s press release for the partnership.
Along with women’s and girl’s dresses and clothing, the extensive line will also feature swimwear, handbags, footwear, cosmetics, and a variety of home accessories. Products from the collaboration will range in price from $2 to $150, while similar items on the brand’s own website can cost up to $348.
Most Lilly fans have been anticipating the opportunity to purchase these regularly-priced $200 dresses at only $38 to $44 at Target this spring, though some worry the collaboration will tarnish the brand’s name.
“I feel like a lot of high-end designers have joined in collaborations with more mainstream stores lately and it just ends up downgrading the brand,” Convent of the Sacred Heart senior Stephanie Browne said. “I really hope this isn’t the case for Lilly, though, because I know a lot of people in this community love their designs.”
Lilly fans look forward to collecting the new patterns designed exclusively for this collaboration, which will not be available in Lilly Pulitzer’s own spring 2015 collection.
Unlike previous Target collaborations with brands like Alexander McQueen and Neiman Marcus, the latest line will be available at every single Target store instead of just a select few. Target will also launch the products online at midnight, including many pieces that will be exclusive to the web.
“I love how unique Lilly’s designs are, like preppy 50s summer-wear, and it really gets you excited for the summer season,” senior Claren Hesburgh said. “It’s such an unexpected designer for Target to partner with this year so I’m really excited to see the outcome.”
