Tiffany & Co. shines light on the environment
In the spirit of the holiday season, the Tiffany & Co. Foundation supports service efforts such as the preservation of the environment through coral conservation and park beautification projects, according to tiffany.co.uk.
The Tiffany Foundation’s goal is to promote awareness of the coral reefs and marine ecosystems, according to tiffanyandcofoundation.org. The Foundation plans to collaborate with consumers, ocean enthusiasts, and select marine-tourism providers to benefit the conservation effort.
“The Tiffany & Co. Foundation is proud to support the efforts of organizations dedicated to environmental stewardship. Through its three strategic programs, the Foundation strives to advance the long term preservation of the Earth’s natural resources,” Mr. Michael J. Kowalski, member of the Board of Directors of The Tiffany Foundation, said according to tiffanyandcofoundation.org.
Tiffany also strives to protect a marine reserve around the Pitcairn Islands. The pacific reserve is about three and a half times the size of the United Kingdom. As of this year, the reserve is 322,138-square-miles and home to at least 1,249 species of marine mammals, seabirds, and fish, according to tiffanyandcofoundation.org.
Its next environmental initiative is the rehabilitation of Mexico City’s Chapultepec Forest Park. The Chapultepec Forest Park is extremely busy and with 4.5 million tourists visiting each year, it is one of Mexico City’s major cultural centers, according to The New York Times. Tiffany announced a one million dollar grant to preserve the park in Mexico City, according to tiffanyandcofoundation.org.
Tiffany is also hoping to institute better standards in the mining industry.
One of the main intentions of the Tiffany Foundation is to develop regulations that will protect small and large-scale mining of various diamonds and jewels that are essential to the ecosystem, according to tiffanyandcofoundation.org.
“During the Christmas season, it is especially important to give back to the community,” junior and Honors Environmental Science student Molly Smith said. “I really admire what Tiffany’s is doing because they are not only giving back to the community but also the environment.”
Through their environmental efforts, Tiffany & Co. can help to reclaim, remediate, and protect the planet, according to tiffanyandcofoundation.org.

Elisabeth, I loved reading your article, and I found the article very interesting, informative, and well written. I was totally unaware that Tiffany & Co. took part in environmental conservation efforts such as you described in your article. It is good to see businesses supporting efforts to improve the environment that we humans are persistently eroding!

Bizzy, Thank you for sharing. Important to show how large corporations make a difference in diverse ways. Important note for CSH women to know that as they enter the workforce that community service is a continued possibility. You made the “blue box” in your photography take on a new light.
