"Humans of Sacred Heart" – Laura Ferrucci ’19

Which character do you play in this year’s winter musical, The Phantom of the Opera?

“I play Ubaldo Piangi.  He and his wife Carlotta are the two lead singers at the Opera Populaire, which is the fictional opera house around which the main plot of Phantom revolves.”

What has been your favorite part about participating in the winter musical?

“Since I first got involved in the theatre program at Sacred Heart, the musical has always been the highlight of my year.  I enjoy so much about participating in the shows, but the part that makes me smile every day and has kept me coming back is the community.  The belief in and commitment to a story is very powerful, and when that energy is shared among a group of people, it manifests in incredible amounts of determination, passion, enthusiasm, and kindness.  It has been really uplifting and inspiring, especially this year, to watch the cast, under the wonderful leadership of Miss Gorman, come together like a family over the course of the show and to be a part of that environment.”

What musical number are you most looking forward to performing?

“I’m most looking forward to performing “Masquerade.”  Miss Gorman, Miss Gennaro, Ms. Gifis, and Mr. Lowery have poured every bit of their creative talent and energy into shaping this explosively big and beautiful number, and it has been quite a challenge for the cast to learn the choreography and music.  But, because of the production team’s efforts and because of how hard the cast has worked to pull everything together, our performance is going to be really sharp, strong, and spectacular, which will be an exciting victory for everyone.”

The King Street Chronicle thanks senior Laura Ferrucci ’19, for her contributions to “Humans of Sacred Heart.”
