World Language Week: Sichuan spicy beef recipe

For this year’s World Language Week, Sacred Heart Greenwich students from the Chinese, Spanish, French, and Arabic classes contributed an article in the language that they study.

For this year’s World Language Week, Sacred Heart Greenwich students from the Chinese, Spanish, French, and Arabic classes contributed an article in the language that they study.  Senior Julia Matthiesen, Advanced Placement (AP) Chinese Language and Culture student, and Ms. Xian Zheng, Upper School Chinese Teacher, wrote this article, a recipe for Sichuan spicy boiled beef.

四川菜:水煮牛肉

配料:

  • 牛肉
  • 小白菜 
  • 调料包
  • 辣椒
  • 酱油
  • 豆瓣酱
  • 生粉
  • 料酒

步骤:

  • 切牛肉
  • 加生粉
  • 加盐
  • 加料酒
  • 拌一拌
  • 在锅里放调料包,然后跟辣椒,豆瓣酱,酱油炒一炒
  • 在锅里放牛肉
  • 炒牛肉
  • 加水
  • 煮牛肉
  • 在新的锅里,加油
  • 在这个锅里加小白菜
  • 炒菜
  • 加盐
  • 把小白菜放在新的碗里
  • 把牛肉到在菜上面
  • 加辣椒和蒜
  • 加热油
  • 把油倒在上面
  • 完成

Sichuan Dish: Spicy Boiled Beef

Ingredients:

  • Beef
  • Chinese cabbage
  • Garlic
  • Sauce packet
  • Red pepper 
  • Soy sauce
  • Bean paste
  • Cornstarch
  • Salt
  • Cooking wine
  • Oil 

Steps:

  • 1) Cut the beef
  • 2) Add cornstarch
  • 3) Add salt
  • 4) Add cooking wine
  • 5) Mix
  • 6) Put sauce packet and stir, with red pepper, bean paste, and soy sauce in a pan
  • 7) Add beef to pan
  • 8) Stir Fry beef
  • 9) Add water
  • 10) Boil beef
  • 11) In a separate pan, add oil
  • 12) Put Chinese cabbage in the pan
  • 13) Stir Fry cabbage
  • 14) Add salt
  • 15) Put cabbage in a separate bowl
  • 16) Pour beef on top
  • 17) Add pepper and garlic
  • 18) Heat up oil
  • 19) Pour oil on top
  • 20) Finished
