“Humans of the Sacred Heart” – Megan Maloney ’22 and Angélique Wheeler ’22

Megan Maloney ‘22:

How long have you been attending Sacred Heart Greenwich and what will you miss the most about Sacred Heart?

“I have been attending Sacred Heart since ninth grade.  From the very first time I stepped onto campus, I truly felt a part of the Sacred Heart family, and that is what I will miss the most.  The community here at Sacred Heart has supported me through my best and worst days, and I could not be grateful enough for all of the wonderful people that I have met.  The Sacred Heart community has forever made me a better person, and I am so grateful to have spent four amazing years here.”

Where are you going to college next year and what are you most looking forward to?

“Next year I will be attending the University of Chicago.  I am really looking forward to experiencing the unique Core Curriculum that UChicago offers.  I can’t wait to take classes with students across all different majors and interests.  I am so excited to meet new people, explore a new city, and get to experience all of the wonderful clubs and traditions that UChicago has to offer.”

Valedictorian is an exceptional academic achievement.  How do you feel about this accomplishment?

“I am so honored to be named the Valedictorian of the Class of 2022.  It was honestly such an incredible yet wonderful surprise, but I could not be happier to represent the class.  It has been both an honor and pleasure to stand with the Class of 2022 for these last four years, and I have so much love and admiration for each and every one of my peers.”

Angélique Wheeler ‘22:

How long have you been attending Sacred Heart Greenwich and what will you miss the most about Sacred Heart?

“I have been attending Sacred Heart since ninth grade.  What I will miss most about Sacred Heart is the closeness of its community.  Before coming to Sacred Heart, I attended public school in my hometown from kindergarten through eighth grade.  After so many years there, I knew everyone my age to some degree, and they knew me.  Starting from a place where I didn’t know anyone was daunting, but Sacred Heart eventually became a place where I found people I can chat with about class, a new movie I watched, the club we’re in, or simply how our weekends went.  Everyone knows everyone, in the best way possible.  In college, it will be another time of starting over, but I hope that at the end of my four years I’ll be able to say the same that I do about Sacred Heart.”

Where are you going to college next year and what are you most looking forward to?

“I will be attending Yale University in the fall.  I’m most excited about all the opportunities that I’ll have access to there.  There are so many classes, from history to cellular biology to public policy to languages and computer science that I cannot wait to struggle to fit into my schedule.  I’m looking forward to joining a bunch of clubs and student groups because of the increase in time I’ll have, and while I’m not particularly athletic, I plan to join at least one intramural or club sport and (of course) attend the Harvard-Yale football game.  Residential colleges (sort of Yale’s version of dorms) have their own special cultures, traditions, and even some associated activities while serving as a smaller group of people on campus, so I’m definitely looking forward to getting involved in activities at mine.”

Salutatorian is an exceptional academic achievement.  How do you feel about this accomplishment?

“I am honored to be named Salutatorian.  I am grateful to my family and to my Upper School teachers for supporting me on my academic journey these past few years.  Without their hard work, there is no way I could have done mine, especially when they worked to ensure I would understand a concept from a class I missed due to an MUN conference or Mock Trial competition, helped me plan my work around tech week for SHG shows, and (in my mother’s case) stayed up late many nights in a row when I had homework to complete.”

The King Street Chronicle thanks seniors Megan Maloney ‘22 and Angélique Wheeler ‘22 for their contributions to “Humans of Sacred Heart.”
