Katherine May ’23:

How long have you been attending Sacred Heart Greenwich, and what will you miss the most about Sacred Heart?

“I have been attending Sacred Heart since ninth grade, and I will miss the community of friends, faculty, and staff that Sacred Heart has been able to foster.  Every day I am so excited to come to school, and I will miss having such a supportive and energetic community around me.  Coming to Sacred Heart was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever talk about how my four years here have made me a better person.”

Where are you going to college next year, and what are you most looking forward to?

“I will be attending Yale University next year. I am most looking forward to the residential college system at Yale, which offers small communities within the larger university.  Specifically, within each college, each person lives in small suites with four or five other people.  I am excited about this because it will be like having a small piece of Sacred Heart with me, a home base of people I can always return to every day.”

Valedictorian is an exceptional academic achievement.  How do you feel about this accomplishment?

“I am honored to be the Valedictorian.  I am grateful to my parents and the community of resources and people at Sacred Heart who have inspired me to work hard and love attending school every day.  During these last four years, I have been surrounded by such incredible and hardworking classmates who have pushed me to be a better version of myself.  I look forward to seeing the incredible accomplishments that they will have in the future.”

Nadia Borja ’23:

How long have you been attending Sacred Heart Greenwich, and what will you miss the most about Sacred Heart?

“After five years at Sacred Heart, no goodbye will be easy.  Every member of the Sacred Heart community is exceptional, and I will deeply miss all the students, teachers, and staff members who make this school so special.  I can’t think of anything more impactful than spending my formative years in an all-girls environment, where I’ve been constantly supported and inspired by incredible young women.  As I embark upon the next stage of my academic and personal journey, I feel more grateful than ever for the unique gift of a Sacred Heart education, which I will carry with me throughout college and beyond.”

Where are you going to college next year, and what are you most looking forward to?

“I will be attending Harvard University in the fall.  I am most looking forward to immersing myself in a diverse and dynamic community, where I’ll have the opportunity to forge countless new relationships.  I plan to take full advantage of the academic freedom that is characteristic of college, exploring every program from Art, Film, and Visual Studies to Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights.  Over the next four years, I am excited to challenge myself in new ways and get out of my comfort zone as much as possible, while holding on to the core values I have developed and deepened at Sacred Heart.”

Salutatorian is an exceptional academic achievement.  How do you feel about this accomplishment?

“I am deeply honored to be named Salutatorian.  While this distinction may seem individual, I view it as a testament to the collaborative and supportive environment that Sacred Heart fosters.  All of my academic achievements have been joint efforts, as I am constantly working with and learning from my peers.  Without the intelligence, creativity, and dedication of the Class of 2023, I could never have put forth the academic work I did or developed into the student I am.  In fact, I would probably still be stuck in ninth-grade Physics.  I could not be more grateful or humbled by the opportunity to represent and celebrate the accomplishments of the people who inspire me the most.”

The King Street Chronicle thanks seniors Katherine May ’23 and Nadia Borja ‘23 for their contributions to “Humans of Sacred Heart.”
