What role does the Diversity Club play in Black History Month?
“During Black History Month, the Diversity Club actively contributes to the creation of spaces for learning, reflection, and celebration. As a group, we support meaningful discussions within our school community while raising awareness of Black perspectives, experiences, and accomplishments. In addition to encouraging inclusion and respect throughout the year, we want Black History Month to be both educational and entertaining.”
How have Black History Month activities at our school helped students learn about and celebrate Black culture and history?
“Black History Month activities at Sacred Heart allow students to learn beyond textbooks by highlighting stories, traditions, and contributions that are often overlooked. Students can celebrate Black culture while learning more about its influence on history and contemporary society through talks, presentations, and school-wide activities.
How does learning about Black history help build awareness and understanding in our school community?
“Students who learn about Black history gain awareness, sensitivity, and a more comprehensive understanding of the world at large. It promotes respect and solidarity while inspiring us to acknowledge the challenges and successes of the Black community. Our school community grows more knowledgeable, sympathetic, and dedicated to equity by taking lessons from the past.”
The King Street Chronicle thanks junior Estela Sosa ’27 for her contributions to “Humans of Sacred Heart.”
